If I remember correctly, this was the only modern Lexus—actually the only Lexus—I saw on display. Of course, for all I know I missed an entire Lexus section. Some wouldn’t be out of place as the early models are now more than 25 years old. Either way, this pre-production LC 500 was beckoning the camera.

The upcoming 2017 Lexus LC 500 was out in a rather uninspiring metallic charcoal color but that made it no less compelling to look at.

I’ve voiced objection to the spindle grille in some, actually most, applications and this iteration didn’t move the needle much. However, I do find it to be their most sensible and best executed effort thus far. Although the Nike Swoosh still isn’t working for me, it has been integrated well on the LC and isn’t at odds with its other features.

The LC 500’s profile is like a strong physique at rest but some of its features seem agitated, more so up front. Regardless, the car appeared styled to the finest detail.

Notice the rear incorporates a convex spindle form. Despite or maybe because of its dichotomy of smooth and sharp elements, I think it all works. There’s also a slight, indefinable allusion to the first generation SC.

I’m not certain if this is a real or simulated carbon fiber panel but it was a nice compliment to this paint color.

The wheel design is okay, however, the painted parts looked like they were done with masking tape and a spray can. The side scoop is reportedly functional and very nicely integrated but could almost be missed in this dark color.

The cabin looked sophisticated and appears to strike a nice balance between sport and luxury. The red materials were low-vibrancy and the gray is a nice alternative to black but I think more harmonious colors would allow the interior’s attractively-designed interfaces to shine.

I may grumble about styling choices but the car was hard to stop photographing, and I repeatedly found myself at the front. This will no doubt be my favorite Lexus model.
