1982 Mercedes-Benz 190 W201 proposal

This proposal, from October 12, 1977, was for the Mercedes-Benz 190 (W201). That model was offered from 1982 all the way through 1993, having been replaced by the C-Class in 1994. This model still appears to reflect the company’s design language from the ’70s. Though mostly attractive, the belt line includes an odd kink, at the base of the B-pillar, and a tall yet sloping rear deck. The bumpers are remarkably well integrated into the bodywork, particularly compared to the mandatory guardrail units designers in the U.S. were being forced to cope with at this time.
