1991 Saturn SL proposal (mv150603)

This is a full size, first-generation Saturn SL proposal that was photographed sometime in late 1985, possibly August. Starting earlier that year the influence of a SC (coupe) proposal started being applied to a series of sedan proposals. These, reportedly, continued to increase in size and mass. This one comes from late in that series, just before similar themes started being explored on smaller renditions.

This particular example includes pop-up headlamps, a single windshield wiper, and a dramatically up-swept rocker panel that skirts the rear fenders. The rear window has a familiar look but is more dramatic in execution. The A-pillar’s widened base was a theme since early drawings but disappears on the subsequent downsized models.
