early Chrysler LX proposal

This is reportedly a picture of Chrysler’s still-born early LX project, submitted by a reader. It comes from, of all places, a Forbes magazine article that described it as being targeted at the Oldsmobile Aurora and Lexus LS400. To that end it was to be fitted with a four-valve V8 that would produce around 300 bhp and feed that power to the rear wheels. It went on to estimate a rather specific top speed of 156 mph. Stylistically, it looks like it would not have been a home run but rather a grand slam. Chrysler’s design team was on fire during the whole of the 1990s and for a period before and after. By the time a production line of RWD LX cars came out, their styling mantra had moved on to new ground and Chrysler’s 300 would be known for its blocky and sinister ZiL (Russian limo) appearance.
