There is a temporary registration taped to the front window and dealer plates at the back. Despite underlying evidence of either a well-preserved example or one that’s been restored, it appears seldom used and in need of a good cleaning.

Pontiac’s Tempest model was introduced for 1960 on the Y body, along with Buick’s Special and Skylark, and Oldsmobile’s F-85 and Cutlass. (That red mark on the tire could be from parking enforcement.)

Unlike Buick and Oldsmobile, Pontiac utilized an advanced drivetrain, known as “rope drive,” that mounted the transaxle at the rear of the car. It led to near 50/50 weight distribution, smoother operation, eliminated the floor hump, and enabled four-wheel independent suspension. It would be a shame if this one wasn’t being cared for.
