This image below shows a room filled with 2014 Corvette proposals submitted from North America, Europe and Asia for a presentation. The subject model was presented by the North American team.
The renderings below the model appear to be early conceptualizations of the same theme, showing a variation of its sophisticated-looking side vent. Further differences from the production model include the rear quarter window which is somewhat reminiscent of the outgoing fifth-generation Camaro’s. The rear fender also appears to have a sharper peak. But something else, in the background of the shot, caught my eye.
The image to the left has been flipped horizontally since it was originally photographed in a mirror. What caught my eye, though, was the heading, “Competitors.”
Curiously, up top is shown a BMW Z4; below that is a Nissan 370z; and third is what appears to be a Porsche, I can only imagine a Cayman in this group. I suppose in base model guise Corvette is cross-shopped with those cars but it seems, to me, to be selling the Corvette short.
This particular model is one of my favorites as it introduces fresh, and very clean, surfaces while fully retaining the Corvette’s recent heritage.
