A couple of years before the Toyota Prius debuted, at the tail end of 1997 in its home market of Japan, the Mitsubishi HEV hybrid electric concept vehicle was being paraded. From what I could find, it had a combination four-cylinder compressed natural gas (CNG) engine and electric motor for a combined power output of 80 horsepower. It was able to travel approximately 375 miles.
It appears to be based on Mitsubishi’s second-generation Space Wagon, called the Chariot in other regions of the world (amongst other names). I’m not sure why the body was stretched so long nor what is inside that panel rear of the doors.
