1995 Auto Trader
Before the online option
The modern armchair auto shopper uses his fingers for typing search parameters and clicking on links. In the mid-1990s those same fingers would be stained with ink from flipping through print ads.
I recently found a variety of Auto Traders I had stashed with my brochure collection. This one was printed almost two decades ago.
Some of the listings brought back memories while a few rekindled old desires.
I think this particular search resulted in a 1994 Toyota 4×4 truck — or was this when I got the 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T? I’ll have to piece together a timeline.
For now, let’s just stroll through some history. This is dated December 14 through 21, 1995 and advertises domestic models, “1988 & newer” in Orange County, California.
Pages 2 and 3 below have a nice mix of vehicles. And notice the dealerships are Buick-Pontiac and Saturn. Ah, the good ol’ days.
I’ve drawn attention to some cars in the images below, either for their uniqueness or from the perspective of “what if I saw this ad today?” But there are plenty more noteworthy examples worth a closer look.
1. 1992 Buick Roadmaster: under 33k miles, $10,995
2. 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT: $7,772
3. 1990 Cadillac Allante(s): $22,995
4. 1992 Lexus LS 400: 48k miles, $28,650
5. 1989 Chevy Camaro “Z28”:
$8,000 make offer
6. 1993 Chevy Lumina Z34 Coupe: 20k miles, $12,988
